The West is openly interfering in the political situation in Armenia and Georgia; this was stated by Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
"Westerners are attempting to interfere openly and brazenly in the political situation. In the South Caucasus, we can see this happening not only in Armenia but also in Georgia," Shoigu said.
According to him, "there are no unresolved disputes between states, and when a disagreement arises, one must immediately assess who benefits from confrontation between neighboring peoples and states."
"As a rule, Westerners are behind this; they are interested in maintaining their control over profitable economic sectors, transport and logistics corridors, and resources," Shoigu noted. Furthermore, according to Russian media reports, in this context, Sergei Shoigu referred to a recent statement by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, who—as Shoigu put it—stated "clearly and sensibly" that "escalation with Russia might be in the interests of Germany or Lithuania, but not of Georgia."
